Have you ever wondered what it’s like to step foot in a Ghost Town? I recently had the chance to visit one in Bodie, CA! This 19th century ghost town is now a State Park, located near the Nevada border. Bodie was a mining town, and during the late 1800’s there was a population of around 7,000-10,000 people.  When other cities and states promised mining booms, population began to decline. By 1920, the population was only around 120, and already being described as a ghost town.

How interesting was that little history lesson?! I bet you totally forgot this was a style blog 😂. Bodie was actually really cool, and I would definitely go back to check out any parts I missed! Let me tell you, this is a photographers DREAM! There are sooo many cool photo/video spots – old abandoned cars, original buildings, fences, and wooden structures.

All the buildings are original, built in the 1800’s! As a state park, they maintain them just enough for them to still be standing. Behind me here is the old Mining Company Stamp Mill, which closed in 1913.

It was a pretty hot on this late September day in Bodie! I dressed casual but cute, tying up a white crewneck T-shirt, high waisted flare crop jeans, and some platform boots. I tied an olive green utility jacket around my waist in case I got cold, but didn’t need it until closing time around 6pm. Of course I had to carry my Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote, because I was lugging around camera’s and some equipment to help with @musicbysummi’s music video.

Of course we explored a bit, and after peaking in all the old buildings, noticed everything was really original. Everything was abandoned and left as-is in the town. There’s old cash registers, merchandise, bottles in the bar, furniture, signage, and even homes with dirty dishes and supplies.

There’s even this old pool table with inches of dust on it! I love the wall by the way, it’s crazy how much detail was put into buildings back in the day.

This was Methodist Church, which is also still standing today. And let me just say, Bodie had some pretty good lighting for being the middle of a sunny day!

This was the main street of the town (or park), where you could find cool things to view off this road. They also have a hotel that’s still standing!

It was cool seeing people dressed up in this area, taking photos around the town. It really is the perfect location for photos, while not being a photo set. It’s the real deal!!!

I love old, antique things, so Bodie was really cool. I would definitely go back, although not looking forward to the last 3 miles of unpaved, rough dirt road to get there (but if you had a 4×4, no problem).

It’s definitely worth making a trip out there though! So much history.

Let me know if you’re had a chance to visit Bodie or if you’re wanting to, what are you most excited to see?!
